My First Pretty Paper Exchange

I follow Felicity Jane's blog: felicityjane.com/blogs/felicity-jane
And she organized a Pretty Paper Exchange. I signed up through Elfster and got paired with Kat from Florida. She also is a blogger and PL (project life) designer apart of many design teams  kraftykat9.blogspot.com

Here's what I got from her last week!

I told her about my washi tape addiction xD

She gave me 18 rolls of washi tape!

I still can't believe she bought this for me!

A decorative Heidi Swapp Marquee !
I will definitely use it for my dorm!!

I told her about how I do mixed media projects.

I was not expecting this bundle either!

I told her how I smashbook and she got me many goodies that I will most certainly use for my smashing ~ from stickers, to photo corners, letter stickers to SMASH items ! Oh I'm so thankful to you Kat!!

Although she sent me A LOT of goodies, I wasn't expecting so much, but here is what I gave her.

Since she has an Instax Mini polaroid I made her a few sparkly frames. I included a template and how-to make her own frames.

I had a lot of extra sheet music so I prepared some song birds for her.
She has a little bird in her logo on her blog so I cut up that design of the bird. (Bottom bird)

Since she's a PL-er and she told me she loves gold, I found these washi tapes from freckledfawn.com another blogger I follow and buy supplies from.

I gave her some of my work too
One of my most pinned quotes on Pinterest:

And a couple more illustrated quotes that I didn't take a picture of.

Anyways, if you have not been a part of a paper exchange or any exchange on Elfster I highly recommend it! Felicity Jane may organize another one so keep posted into her blog if you wish to be apart of a paper exchange~ felicityjane.com/blogs/felicity-jane

More Quote Art with Washi Tape

I saw this washi tape at Michaels by Recollections and I just had to get it!
One roll of 2 cm wide vintage cameras and another roll of 1 cm wide film strip, both 10 yards long.

I've been looking for an opportunity to use it and I found the perfect moment when I read the quote : "Life is like photography. We develop from the negatives."

Using the 05 black Micron pen for the camera outline and Prismacolor Brush black pen.

Pages in my Smashbook

I LOVE quotes. And displaying them in art form is what can capture people's eyes into reading them.

I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and that movie is loaded with uplifting and mind provoking quotes. One of which is LIFE's motto: "To see the world, things to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life."

I just got a calligraphy Sheaffer Calligraphy pen and decided to use it for LIFE's motto and a fine point Pilot V5 pen for the other quote.

I had just finished reading The Fault in our Stars and while reading I took note of some very touching quotes.

I used my clear stitched journaling panel stamps to make the lines.

I hope this inspires you to write down your quotes and give them the attention they deserve ~

Smashbook Cover

I promised myself at the beginning of this year to journal everyday this year. As I started I found out about smashbooking. Basically, you stick and tape anything mementous inside your smashbook.

Here is my second smashbook of this year. It gets bulkier as you go along.
My smashbook was originally a blank composition book.

To make the pages thicker, I washi taped two pages together. Not only does it make the pages thicker but adds a variety of color.

Here is the cover:
I added some quotes and random designs on card stock paper to make the cover more durable.

To make the quotes I took regular Crayola washable markers and drew random stripes.

Then taking a Sakura white gel pen I wrote in my quote. I highly recommend Sakura gel pens due to the ink's thickness.

Then I tipped the quote around the edges and took a marker to give the fluffy edges color.

I picked the place on my cover and got my Mod Podge and painted it on to the journal.

Mod Podge is one of my must have smashbooking tools. Not only is it good for firming up the cover, but it's an easy stick on to pages. It also provides a glossy and preserving look.

Art and Quotes

We all know that life isn't always rainbows and butterflies, but we should also know that we can't let the tough times get the best of us.

The story of Cinderella impacted me as a child to remember to keep your head up high no matter how much you are suffering and eventually you will be rewarded.

Watching the new Cinderella (2015) they emphasized the quote: "Have courage and be kind." Yes, it's hard to do, but ultimately it is something that I'd like to strive for.

Not only is this quote encouraging for me, but I loved how Cinderella's dress was designed.

First I penciled Cinderella's outline.
I used acrylic paints, but in a watercolor fashion to get the different shades of blue without mixing paints.

To get the flesh tone I mixed white with a drop of red, then a drop of yellow, the lastly a tiny drop of green. The more darker you add red the more light add yellow.

I could have done a better job with her hair, but I wanted to keep it dirty blond.

Using my liner brush I painted the quote.

I was really scared to mess up her face. But I used a .05 Graphik Liner pen to draw in her eyes and eyebrows.
